What is a Pilates class?
Pilates is a form of low-impact exercise that aims to strengthen muscles while improving postural alignment and flexibility. The focus is on controlled movements that emphasise core stability, mobility, and mind-body awareness.
Pilates was developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, a German physical trainer. Originally called "Contrology," the method was influenced by various forms of exercise, including gymnastics, boxing, and yoga. Joseph Pilates believed that mental and physical health were closely interconnected, and he designed his exercises to engage both the mind and body in harmony.
Having recently completed the Polestar Pilates Comprehensive Teacher Training, which encompasses all Pilates equipment, Tamsyn currently teaches both 1-2-1 and group mat and equipment sessions, specialising in rehabilitation and recovery. Her Pilates classes are aimed at building strength, improving posture, supporting injury and achieving optimal mobility, whatever your age or experience.
